Rate Relief for Horsham District Businesses

Wednesday, November 15th, 2017
Dated – 22 September 2017
Taken from the HDC website Press section:

A business rates relief scheme which will benefit hundreds of businesses across the district, was approved by Horsham District Council on 21 September 2017.

In April 2017, the rateable value of businesses was changed due to a revaluation by the Government’s Valuation Office Agency. The government subsequently established a £300 million discretionary rate relief fund to support those businesses that face the steepest increases in their business rates bills as a result of the revaluation.

Horsham District Council’s share of the national pot of money is £789,350 and will be distributed to some 348 small and medium sized businesses over the next four financial years.

Businesses with a new rateable value of between £15,000 and £150,000 and who were subject to an increase in rateable value of more than 7% of their revaluation, qualify under the scheme.

The money will be automatically awarded so there is no need for businesses to apply.

Cabinet Member for Finance and Assets, Councillor Brian Donnelly, said: “We are very pleased that funds have been made available to ease small businesses through the increase in business rates.”

Anthony Hamblin Mackley

Tuesday, February 14th, 2017

It is with much regret and sadness that we have to inform you that Tony passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday morning, 5th February.

Tony was diagnosed with cancer late last year and unfortunately the disease was particularly aggressive which sadly did not give him as much time as we had hoped.

Our thoughts and hearts go out to his wife Helen and his sons and daughters – Sarah, Oliver, Alex, Laura, Thomas and Victoria. He will be very sorely missed.

Tony spent his early career with J.T.Mackleys until he took over the running of J. Thomas (Southern) Crane Hire in the eighties. It was after this that he became more involved in the Industrial Estate.

Tony had been fully immersed in the day to day management of the Mackley Estate since 2010, and he took a great deal of pride in the look and feel of the grounds.
He was very pleased that our estate was notable for the good relationships he had with tenants, contractors and the residents of Small Dole and he always did what he could to support the businesses on the estate to flourish.
His reassuring presence, years of experience and ready-wit will be greatly missed.

J.T.Mackleys will be having a minutes silence at 12.00 noon on Monday 6th February to reflect on their memories of Tony and they would be honoured if anyone that knew Tony could join them.

Tony’s funeral will be held at Findon Crematorium on Tuesday 21st February at 1.40pm. Family flowers only please, but if you would like to contribute to the named charities this can be done through Chalcraft Funeral Directors in Steyning. The family have chosen The Martlets and the RNLI.

Sweet Expansion by The Raw Chocolate Co

Friday, March 18th, 2016

The Raw Chocolate Company have recently expanded their presence on Mackley Industrial Estate, and are now the new tenants in Unit 21, the unit formerly occupied by VW Kampers. They already occupy unit 3, near the pond. It’s wonderful to see the Estate’s tenants prospering, and growing their businesses in this way. The Raw Chocolate Company has gone from strength to strength in the last few years, and their products are appearing in new locations all the time.  The Company specialises in producing delicious wholefood treats made from the finest ingredients, all sourced with great care and enormous respect for the producers and growers, and for the environment. Their famous appearsance on Dragon’s Den gave some welcome exposure to an already thriving small business, and their continuing success is well deserved. Welcome to Unit 21!

Fastline Autoglazing

Friday, January 15th, 2016

We’d like to extend a big welcome to the Estate’s newest tenants, Andy Redfern and Matthew Line.

Matthew of Fastline Autoglazing has taken the tenancy of Unit 1a from the previous occupiers, Surfbus, in joint partnership with Andy Redfern who has many years experience of bodywork repairs. The business offers a long list of services from windscreen repair and replacement, to van conversions, full valeting, and body damage repairs. You can find them by taking the turning just past the Small Dole village hall which stands on the North side of the estate entrance.

Matthew’s sister Gemma looks after the office, and books appointments. Matthew tells me that they have a lot of experience of converting vans into taxis and campervans. Something to bear in mind for the Summer holidays!
